Victoria Mørkedal

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Victoria and I’m originally from Riga, Latvia. I came to Norway as an 18-year-old exchange student, and 15 years later, I’m still here. I live in Bærum with my husband and our three children. My free time is often spent hiking in the forest or climbing a mountain – preferably with skis on my feet. I studied accounting in Latvia and have a Bachelor’s degree from Riga State Technical School. In Norway, I’ve spent the last 5 years working on my degree in the field of business administration. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from BI Norwegian Business School and am about to complete my Master of Science degree in Business, with a specialisation in Economics from the same institution.

What have you helped us with during your internship at Embriq?
One of my primary tasks was to help prepare the ESG report to be published in early 2022. ESG is an abbreviation for Environmental, Social Corporate and Governance. Listed companies are now required to report on these key factors in order to measure and assess their sustainability efforts.

I’ve also been involved in creating and holding presentations for employees and the management team at Embriq. Other assignments were tied to the Finance Department’s month-end accounting. I’ve also worked on many smaller tasks along the way. Every aspect of the internship has been both educational and exciting.

How did you get in touch with Embriq?
Embriq advertised its internship positions on BI’s career portal. When I came across the ad, I quickly realised it was a good match. I am passionate about ESG and everything associated with the topic and wanted to work with it in practice.

What do you think has been the most rewarding thing about the internship, and what has been the most challenging?
The most rewarding thing has been working on the ESG report, involves documenting a company’s climate footprint and how you can help reduce climate change. I felt that my suggestions and ideas were well received. At the same time, I got to use my knowledge from a class I took last semester at BI, which was about ESG and business. It’s really cool to get out from behind your school desk and put the knowledge you’ve acquired into practice. Throughout the internship, my immediate manager was with me every step of the way. The biggest challenge was to give a presentation on ESG at a joint event for employees and for a management meeting, but it went very well.

What have you learned from doing an internship?
I’ve learned about an exciting and rapidly growing company that occupies a strong position in the digitalisation of the energy sector. It’s companies like this one that will deliver the technological solutions the Green Shift demands. At Embriq, I’ve gained valuable insight into how to combine business, growth opportunities, and ESG.

What is your top tip is for other students who want to intern at a company?
From Day One of your internship, be open about what you’re passionate about and how you can contribute your experience and knowledge. Don’t be afraid to take responsibility. If necessary, ask for help along the way and get to know the people in the company.
